A resurgent Liverpool make the arduous journey to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday in a duel that could have huge ramifications in the destination of this season’s title.
City and Liverpool are playing catch-up to Arsenal already having each endured several blips early in the campaign, but they have the opportunity to make a statement this weekend. Victory for either would lay down a sizeable marker, although the table-topping Gunners will be eager to witness a stalemate in Manchester.
Pep Guardiola’s men not only boast home advantage for Sunday’s encounter, they also have form on their side. They have lost just once since the beginning of September and have won six of their last seven matches in all competitions. The unstoppable Erling Haaland has been integral to their success, but the likes of Phil Foden and Jérémy Doku have impressed in supporting roles.
Liverpool are rediscovering their mojo after an abhorrent run of form, winning their last two matches to nil as they look to get back to basics. Convincing wins over Aston Villa and, most importantly, Real Madrid have lifted spirits and thrust them back into the title picture, although travelling to Manchester will prove a stern test of their credentials.
The Reds did end their Etihad hoodoo en route to last season’s Premier League title, but they generally suffer on visits to City. Before their victory in February, they hadn’t beaten the Cityzens away from home in the league since November 2015.
Here is guide to a pivotal clash before the November international break.
